Honoring and Celebrating the Life of Senator Hugh Leatherman

The spring concert will honor and celebrate the life of Senator Hugh K. Leatherman. First elected to the S.C. Senate in 1980, Leatherman was among the longest-serving lawmakers in the legislature, representing the 31st district anchored in Florence. The choir, orchestra, and soloists will perform the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, along with a new work commissioned by the Masterworks Choir – Te Deum by composer Terre Johnson. Don’t miss this memorial finale concert of our 44th season.

Christmas with Masterworks

Our annual Christmas performances this year feature the Midnight Mass for Christmas by French baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier. This intimate work features ten old French Christmas carols set in an artful and meaningful sequence. The second work on the program is Magnificat by J.S. Bach.

The Magnificat is a jewel among Bach’s sacred works with its twelve concise, discrete movements. It remains one of Bach’s most performed compositions. As an added bonus, the Masterworks Children’s Choir will join us for several beloved Christmas carols. We anticipate capacity crowds at these concerts, so plan to arrive early.
