Children’s Choir

OUR HISTORY

In the Fall of 2015, Sandra Howard was asked if she could prepare a children’s choir to perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Hodie” with the Masterworks Choir for its Christmas concert. Then, as director of the Hartsville Children’s Chorale, she rehearsed with them and with a group of children from Central United Methodist Church in Florence for the December 2015 performance.

That venture led to the formation of the Masterworks Children’s Choir in the 2016-2017 season, with Sandra as the founding director. The Masterworks Children’s Choir routinely performs each Fall for the Florence Pecan Festival.  Performances with the Masterworks Choir include John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children” and “Jubilate Deo” by Dan Forrest. It also has performed concerts with other local and regional artists, including the Florence Symphony Orchestra,  the  Cary (NC) Youth Voices, and percussionist Shane Reeves.

WHAT CHILDREN ARE SAYING

“The first day I came into this room I was a little scared. But now that I’ve been singing here for several years, it feels like my second home. The people here feel like my second family. I have loved every song and every moment and I am thankful."

— Lena

“I love Masterworks so much! I love all our songs, especially Shady Grove. I love all the people in the group. I also love how we sound. Every Monday when I’m at school, I always think about how I have Masterworks after school.”
